Description

Description

At 18 ANO, the largest public Rehabilitation Unit in Greece, the person-centered, psychosocial approach to the addicted individual, using dialectics as the main methodological tool and the therapeutic group as a collective, creates the necessary conditions for the development of the therapeutic framework for rehabilitation.

Psychotherapy and Art, in their dialectical relationship, create an amazing constellation of groups, mobilizing the deficient processes of symbolization in the drug addict, that is, the recovery of the world of symbols and social individuality.

During the journey of rehabilitation, the drug addict gains access to the symbolic and the imaginary, to spiritual life and culture. They become capable of discovering every moment the new meaning that things and their life acquire, stepping out of social marginality and actively participating in the social fabric. They also organize their new life around their resistance to the forces of biopower and any form of social control.

In Art, the drug addict finds the key to unlock their rich but hermetically closed inner world. Through painting, sculpture, music, poetry, theater, and photography, they achieve the ability to express themselves, to create, to find peace, to form relationships, and to enjoy their life.

They discover along this path their unknown artistic abilities and the reasons that make them hope and struggle. They realize that they also have value that is recognized, that they are not "nothing," as they believed before. Gradually, they open their own window to the world.
