Description & Specifications

Kin is free. The reason he changes behavior, acts out, loses his sanity or pretends to lose it, is the lack of respect he receives from society. One moment society crowns him as the "king of England" and the next lashes out at him for his indecorous and irrational stance.

Society imposes the change on him that, when it sees his true face, it does not like, and at any moment it is lurking to attack him. Thus, he is forced to wear the familiar mask of his role, the role that he finds advantageous to embody, according to the circumstances dictated by others.

Kin is free within the unfreedom of others. His actions are often reckless. Kin's freedom is largely internal, but it is also granted to him by those around him who take pleasure in watching him, admiring the images of his frenzy and passion.

There is a give-and-take in this freedom, a relationship of transaction and interest. Others provide him the freedom of movement, emotions, behaviors, material pleasures, and Kin allows them to become lost in his own fairy tale and feel free through him.

Perhaps they also play some of his roles in an effort to experience true freedom, that of Shakespearean characters who are often not afflicted by pretense, falsehood, and inner delusion. [Excerpt from the text on the back cover of the edition]
