3M Headlight Repair Process

Step 1:

• Thoroughly clean the headlights with soapy water and mask the surrounding surfaces with durable tape (2328 or 2090).
• In cases of very heavy damage (severe yellowing or very deep scratches), start sanding with P500 255P+ 75mm disc (50080) on a soft intermediate pad (05771) using a 75mm eccentric rotary sander with pressure of 40-50psi.

Step 2:

• In many cases, damage to the headlights can be repaired by starting sanding with P800 260L 75mm discs (00910) on a soft intermediate pad (05771).
• Wipe the headlights after sanding to ensure that all scratches or yellowing have been removed. If not, repeat the process.

Step 3:

• Remove the scratches from the previous process using Trizact P1000 discs (50413) on the soft intermediate pad.
• Use a spray bottle and moisten the headlights and the Trizact sanding disc.
• During the sanding process, white sludge will form. This means the disc is cutting.
• Wipe the headlights. The result will be a uniform haze as a result of the P1000 scratches on the headlights.

Step 4:

• P3000 Trizact: The unique pyramidal construction of Trizact discs makes the polishing process easy.
• Place the P3000 Trizact abrasive disc 75 mm (50415) on the soft intermediate pad.
• Spray water again and start sanding.
• With this method, the surface will clean and shine partially. The surface is now ready for the application of the compounds.

Step 5:

• Polishing Process: Polish by placing a few drops of the Plastic Restorer compound (59015) on the green sponge 75mm (50499).
• Initially, use low speed on the polisher and medium pressure. Then increase the speed and relax the pressure.
• Continue until the scratches are removed and the original shine is restored.

Step 6:

• Final Polishing: To give the final polish, place a few drops of the Plastic Polish (59016) on the yellow sponge 75mm (50536).
• Initially, use low speed on the polisher and medium pressure. Then increase the speed and relax the pressure.
