Although Modern Greek is particularly rich in compound words of various forms, there are no detailed descriptions of the process of word composition in either linguistic studies or traditional grammars.
The aim of this work is to fill this gap. Modern Greek compounds are described and studied with arguments, methods, and ways of analysis from contemporary linguistic research, while being compared to compounds from other languages, both from the same and from different language families and typologies.
