Manos was Greece, he was music. Just as Mozart is Vienna and music. However, his music surpassed Greece; it was eternal. It was neither modern nor classical. It was Manos' music, which carried the scent of his homeland but then transcended and became universal. This happened because his music embodied Greece. And to be international, one must first belong to a country, and show, sing, and travel that country throughout the world. If we do not have a specific identity, we are nothing and no one cares about us. Americans, for example, will not be interested in a foreigner trying to make American music. By the same logic, if someone is deeply Greek with genuine roots, this passionates the Japanese, passions the Brazilians, passions the whole world.
