Quite large and extremely slow (570 pages are mentioned in 4 days), but overall very good.

Description & Specifications

Based on his experiences from the Spanish Civil War, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" has been regarded by critics as the author's finest work and one of the greatest war novels of all time.

It describes four days in the life of the hero and protagonist Robert Jordan, an American who has been sent as a dynamiter to blow up a strategically important bridge. Only four days, at the end of spring 1937 in Spain, specifically in the forests around Segovia.

During these critical days, Jordan profoundly experiences love in the form of the beautiful and tormented Maria, fear and anxiety in a country torn apart by civil war, devotion and friendship, as well as superstition among the Spanish guerrillas. Death lurks all around him, giving all feelings a completely different dimension and intensity.
