Description

NAS of the company QNap. It is of type Tower and is mainly intended for home use. NAS devices are devices that host hard drives, greatly assisting in secure data storage and are directly connected to the Router. They create a personal cloud and make files accessible from any device you have without worrying about the storage space of each device. They emphasize on creating backups, which is done automatically through settings, and on entertainment as they can reproduce content on any device that has access to them and from anywhere.

This model consists of the Realtek RTD1295 processor. with 1GB RAM DDR4. It incorporates additional ports such as USB to connect devices such as printers, USB sticks, etc., and HDMI for direct connection to a monitor or TV. It does not have built-in hard drives, which means you will need to add your own. It supports up to 2 disk units HDD.

It supports Raid 0, 1, JBOD capability. RAID 0 is used only for speed purposes as the speed of all disks is added, and not for backup. If even one disk is destroyed, all data is lost. RAID 1 is the replication of one disk to another. Whatever is written on one disk is automatically written on the other. Also, if one disk is destroyed, the system will continue to function normally, but you will need to add a new disk to start the process of copying the healthy disk to the new one. JBOD refers to Apple systems. If 2 or more disks are used, the formatted space will be added. If one disk fails, it is possible to recover the remaining data from the other disks.

  • A technician set it up for my office and it works perfectly. It is programmed to back up daily to a second internal disk. It has a mobile application and you can also connect remotely through a web browser. You can create users, each with access to different folders, etc. Additionally, if there is a cloud, you can set it to upload all files there for backup at regular intervals. Overall, I can't find anything negative.

In the first 2 months, I was excited about the functions. I mainly use it for media streaming with Plex and I have set up scheduled backups with external drives that can be connected to the 3 USB ports it has. It also has user-friendly apps for mobile, e.g. to add torrents. However, suddenly one day it stopped recognizing one of the drives, and specifically the model of the drive, as I tried 3 of the same ones that I have. (And this only happens in one of the 2 slots, the other ones work fine!) I found another drive that works to do my job. None of the drives I have are on the compatibility list. So if you are thinking of using drives that you already have, first check the compatibility list to avoid surprises... And backup in an additional location (e.g. an external drive, it saved me!)

  • I have had it for about a month, I have not found anything negative. If you set it up correctly (always on a gigabit network) it plays perfectly and is quiet. Of course, time will show its durability
