This musical work on the hymns of Holy and Great Week serves as a natural continuation and supplement to my previous similar work on the hymns of the Triodion (Musical Triodion, vol. I 1985, vol. II 1987).
I have attempted to gather in this volume all the necessary musical texts of the services of Holy Week, both slow, meditative, and fast, so that the singers have the ability to choose the most suitable ones according to the circumstances under which the services are held.
However, to avoid enlarging the work, I limited myself to the content specific to Holy Week, excluding non-specific material, such as chants, paschal hymns, liturgies of St. Basil, the service of the Pre-sanctified Gifts, and the Great Compline. Furthermore, I included the latter extensively in Volume II of the Triodion.
For the same reason, I did not include the verses of the Vespers stichera, the anthems, and the praises except for the specific ones of Holy Week.
