This book presents, after a strict selection, excerpts from the works of Plato and Aristotle, Aeschylus and Sophocles, Euripides and Thucydides, Isocrates and Demosthenes, where these classic authors express crucial opinions on the essence of politics, this critical regulatory function of society for humans, or on important political issues.
Each chapter consists of texts specifically related to a particular topic in their original form, along with their translation and commentary. The selection for compiling the book was not exhaustive of the relevant texts from ancient Greek literature on the general theme, but systematically selective.
The selection of each excerpt was made based on its value as an expression of significant meanings or political demands with a timeless authority, or as an inspiration for the renowned political scientists and visionary politicians of later centuries.
