Description

“This book will benefit a multitude of people who are capable of helping both young and mature individuals overcome the barrier posed by dyslexia. Few can convey information as successfully as Gavin Reid on this subject." Sir Jackie Stewart, Chairman of Dyslexia Scotland and Vice-President of the British Dyslexia Association

Ideal for teachers, students of education-related courses, and educational psychologists, this new, updated edition of Gavin Reid's best-selling handbook is an essential resource for practice and research in the fields of dyslexia and literacy.

The fourth edition of Dyslexia: A Handbook for Professionals incorporates the latest theoretical and practical research in the field of dyslexia and literacy. While emphasizing inclusion and meeting the needs of all those within the prevailing system, the book also addresses the optimal provision of specialized practice, specifically focusing on individualized approaches.

The chapters examine primary and secondary education and adult education, as well as the role of parents. A new chapter on preschool practice complements all of the above. Other new chapters identify the challenges teachers face and offer practical and insightful advice on how to approach and handle them within the context of new research findings.

New features include summaries of the content at the beginning of each chapter and points for reflection at the end of each chapter. The appendices include tests that teachers can use, and a comprehensive list of updated contact details for various organizations related to dyslexia and literacy.

Dr. Gavin Reid is a consultant on learning difficulties at the Centre for Child Education and Teaching in Kuwait and an independent educational psychologist in Vancouver, Canada. He is also the co-founder and director of the Red Rose School for children with specific learning difficulties in St Annes-on-Sea, Lancashire, United Kingdom. Previously, he was a senior lecturer at Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
