This edition marks the beginning of our collaboration with the Technological Institute of Epirus, specifically with the publications of the Department of Folk and Traditional Music. It includes the recording of the well-known rhythms from the tambourine in Greek traditional and folk music through dances, songs, and instrumental pieces. The photos and diagrams provide all the necessary information.

Alongside people who played traditional musical instruments, sang, and danced, the material presented here is not something I simply knew, but something I experienced, blended with images, tastes, smells, and above all, rich and meaningful emotions, on the basis of the collective understanding that unites the participants of an old but always vibrant musical language. Therefore, in writing this, I tried not to dilute the experience, not to betray its dynamics, but to evoke in every case the entirety of the sounds, and even more so, the functions served by the rhythms I gather in this presentation. That is why the rhythmic patterns are matched with dance types: I do not consider them identical, of course, but I choose to maintain this practice of naming, which is the rule among folk musicians, in order to serve the need for reduction to the universal experience that accompanies folk music.
