I replaced an old 12,000 BTU Klimatair Plus air conditioner that was installed in my mother's studio apartment, which is 40 square meters. It easily cooled the entire house (with the bedroom door open). However, it was not suitable for heating in cold weather since it did not have inverter technology.
I won't go into the features of the Carrier Platinum Plus, as they are well-known from the description. It's not a coincidence that a 12,000 BTU unit is more expensive than many 18,000 or even 24,000 BTU air conditioners. What sets the Carrier Platinum Plus apart is its high performance combined with extremely low energy consumption.
The installation of the Wi-Fi was quite challenging, as it is not integrated into the unit. Inside the package, there is a Carrier smart kit that looks like a flash drive. This kit needs to be installed somewhere so that the air conditioner can connect to the network.
In the user manual, there is a general diagram showing a position inside the cover where the smart kit should be attached. However, this diagram does not match reality. I opened the air conditioner's cover to install it, but the position shown in the user manual did not exist inside the cover.
After watching an older video on YouTube, I noticed that the Carrier smart kit was connected to a visible USB port at that time.
Finally, I asked Carrier's customer service and a lady provided me with written instructions on how to do it:
To install the USB, we need to remove the screw above the gray-black frame shown in the photo. Carefully slide out this gray-black plastic, and on its inner side, we will see a slot for the USB. We insert it and reattach the gray-black frame. Finally, we screw the screw back in. We download the application and register our air conditioner.
The photos I took are very informative.
After that, the activation was a piece of cake. The mobile application works perfectly.
However, pay attention to a critical point. When I entered the stored code on my phone, the cursor was positioned one place after the last digit. This resulted in the air conditioner's addition to the application stopping at 66% and failing. This happens because this empty space is recognized as an additional digit. Delete it so that the cursor is positioned right after the last digit of the code, and the addition of the air conditioner to the application will be completed immediately.
As for the air conditioner, I have only tested it in hot weather so far, as it is still quite cold in northern Greece in May during the mornings and evenings. I will update my evaluation once I have used it in the summer and winter.
Despite the difficulty of installing the Wi-Fi, I give it 5 stars because I made the purchase based on the performance of the air conditioner and not the presence of Wi-Fi. However, since it does have Wi-Fi, I believe the installation process should be easier or at least there should be clear installation instructions in the user manual, along with the correct images.

Αντικατέστησα ένα παλιό 12άρι Klimatair plus που ήταν τοποθετημένο στη γκαρσονιέρα της μητέρας μου, 40τ.μ. Στην ψύξη κάλυπτε άνετα το σπίτι (με ανοιχτή την πόρτα της κρεβάτοκάμαρας). Για θέρμανση στα κρύα ούτε λόγος, αφού δεν ήταν τεχνολογίας inverter.
Δε θα σταθώ στα χαρακτηριστικά του Carrier Platinum Plus, τα οποία είναι γνωστά από την περιγραφή. Δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι ένα 12άρι είναι πιο ακριβό από αρκετά 18άρια ή ακόμα και από αρκετά 24άρια κλιματιστικά. Αυτό που κάνει το Carrier Platinum Plus να ξεχωρίζει, είναι η υψηλή του απόδοση σε συνδυασμό με την εξαιρετικά χαμηλή κατανάλωση.
Αυτό που με δυσκόλεψε πολύ ήταν η εγκατάσταση του wi-fi, το οποίο δεν είναι ενσωματωμένο στη μονάδα. Μέσα στη συσκευασία υπάρχει ένα Carrier smart kit που μοιάζει με φλασάκι. Αυτό, κάπου θα πρέπει να τοποθετηθεί, ώστε το κλιματιστικό να μπορεί να εμφανιστεί στο δίκτυο.
Στο εγχειρίδιο χρήσης, υπάρχει ένα γενικό σχέδιο που δείχνει μια θέση στο εσωτερικό του καπακιού, πάνω στην οποία κουμπώνει το smart kit. Αυτό το σχέδιο δεν έχει καμιά σχέση με την πραγματικότητα. Άνοιξα το καπάκι του κλιματιστικού για να το τοποθετήσω, αλλά η θέση που δείχνει το εγχειρίδιο χρήσης, δεν υπήρχε μέσα στο καπάκι του κλιματιστικού.
Βλέποντας ένα παλαιότερο βίντεο στο YouTube, παρατήρησα ότι το Carrier smart kit συνδεόταν τότε σε μια ορατή θύρα USB.
Τελικά, έκανα το ερώτημα στο service της Carrier και μια κυρία μου έδωσε γραπτές οδηγίες πώς να το κάνω:
Για την τοποθέτηση του USB θα πρέπει να αφαιρέσουμε τη βίδα πάνω από το γκριζόμαυρο πλαίσιο που φαίνεται στη φωτογραφία. Ξεσυρταρώνουμε το γκριζόμαυρο αυτό πλαστικό με πολλή προσοχή και στην εσωτερική πλευρά του θα δούμε μια υποδοχή για το USB. Το τοποθετούμε και κουμπώνουμε πάλι το γκριζόμαυρο πλαίσιο. Τέλος βιδώνουμε ξανά τη βίδα. Κατεβάζουμε την εφαρμογή και εγγράφουμε το κλιματιστικό μας.
Οι φωτογραφίες που τράβηξα είναι πολύ κατατοπιστικές.
Από κει και πέρα, η ενεργοποίηση ήταν παιχνιδάκι. Η εφαρμογή στο κινητό λειτουργεί άψογα.
Προσέξτε όμως ένα κρίσιμο σημείο. Όταν συμπλήρωνα τον αποθηκευμένο στο κινητό κωδικό, ο κέρσορας βρισκόταν μια θέση μετά το τελευταίο ψηφίο. Αυτό είχε ως αποτέλεσμα, η προσθήκη του κλιματιστικού στην εφαρμογή να σταματάει στο 66% και να αποτυγχάνει. Αυτό συμβαίνει γιατί το κενό αυτό αναγνωρίζεται ως επιπλέον ψηφίο. Το διαγράφετε ώστε ο κέρσορας να βρίσκεται ακριβώς μετά τελευταίο ψηφίο του κωδικού και η προσθήκη του κλιματιστικού στην εφαρμογή ολοκληρώνεται αμέσως.
Όσον αφορά το κλιματιστικό, προς το παρόν το δοκίμασα στη ζέστη, αφού, αν και Μάιος, στη βόρεια Ελλάδα κάνει ακόμα αρκετό κρύο τις πρωινές και τις βραδινές ώρες. Όταν το δουλέψω το καλοκαίρι και τον χειμώνα, θα συμπληρώσω την αξιολόγησή μου.
Παρόλη τη δυσκολία εγκατάστασης του wi-fi, βάζω 5 αστέρια, γιατί προχώρησα στην αγορά με βάση την απόδοση του κλιματιστικού και όχι την ύπαρξη του wi-fi. Εφόσον όμως υπάρχει, θεωρώ ότι θα έπρεπε να είναι πιο εύκολη η διαδικασία εγκατάστασής του ή τουλάχιστον να υπήρχαν σαφείς οδηγίες εγκατάστασης στο εγχειρίδιο χρήσης και φυσικά με τις σωστές εικόνες.
