  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I would choose a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for purchase
  • One of the best books we have in our children's library. The message may be "heavy" for children of this age, but the alternation with the shoes makes it interesting and they can follow it.

  • Wonderful book about empathy and what it means to step into someone else's shoes, which at first happens literally and then metaphorically. It can be read from kindergarten up to elementary school, where children can better understand the concept. Some have been critical of the fact that there is a mosque in the story; perhaps this says more about their own fears than about the book itself, which clearly speaks about empathy and acceptance.

The next book by Halikiá will logically talk about the Quran and jihad, just to familiarize the children. That is, the shoes could only be connected to the mosque that is constantly mentioned, and with no other place, e.g., a store. I would say more about the obvious and the motivations behind such choices, especially in children's books, but I'll stop here.

Although I am not crazy about the mention of the mosque in the story, nevertheless, it serves as an opportunity for the child to put himself in his mother's shoes and understand her.
