Dear students of the 5th grade,
In the past two school years, in the 3rd and 4th grade, you traveled with the History books "to very old times" and "ancient times". You got to know places, peoples, and cultures. You listened, read, and learned a lot about their lives, works, and civilization. During your visits to museums and some historical sites in your area, you saw wonderful examples of the lives and civilization of our ancestors from those times. We believe that all of these made you good friends of the History subject.
This year, the fascinating journey of history continues "in the Byzantine era". It is a long period of about sixteen centuries (146 BC - 1453 AD). Many important events, both pleasant and unpleasant, happened during this time. However, most of them improved the lives of people, and we still enjoy some of their positive outcomes today. Therefore, the life, works, and civilization of people "in the Byzantine era" will be the subject of your history lessons and your school book this year.
In the teaching units of your book, besides the texts, there are images, maps, historical timelines, and testimonial texts written by people who lived during that era. All of these are related to the lesson texts and aim to help you understand them. Many of them are also connected to the activities in your workbook, to assist you in better studying and completing them.
We hope that with this book and the help of your teachers, you will have a useful and enjoyable "historical" journey this year as well. The view of the history of our ancestors, from the third step, the step of the "Byzantine era", will be more fascinating for you this year.
Have a great school year.
