This book is the result of the author's postdoctoral research. The main aim of the work is to present Aristophanes' poetry as a constant vigilance against the political, social, and literary problems of his time and as a living poetic creation. It is an attempt to provide a comprehensive picture of Aristophanes as a lyric poet.
The specific conditions under which the comedic performances were given in ancient Athens are examined and the technical terms are clarified. The stage behavior of the comedic hero is described and interpreted. The lyrical parts of the comedy are thoroughly analyzed, where the center of gravity of the book is located, and the comedic element of these choral passages is mainly studied. Aristophanes possesses and uses a plethora of tones and his lyrical inspiration moves between song on one hand and prayer on the other. These are the two poles of his lyrical expression. His peculiarity, which is also part of his genius, is the connection and transition from song to prayer and vice versa. Aristophanes effortlessly transitions from a high lyricism to a "realism" full of the most shameless impudence. These two forms of lyricism are not easily distinguished, but they always stand out in the poet's comedies. Finally, the comedic catharsis achieved by the actor on stage as well as the Athenian audience, who feels psychological relief and redemption at the end of the performance, is presented.
