    I installed only 2 front speakers with a Pioneer MVH240 source. They are quite good speakers, both in volume and quality. The Pioneer almost maxes them out, imagine that. The thing is, the bass isn't that heavy, it's a bit softer—I believe that's also due to the size, of course. At max volume, at mid volume you can play as much as you want with the bass. Beyond that, they have power and it seems they could give even more volume and bass with an amplifier, obviously. Personally, I've made a custom EQ and play them at 50/60 volume. So I'm on the fence about whether to get an amplifier or not, because then the budget gets out of hand and maybe it's not worth it. Meaning that they play quite loud with a good source and nothing else. Now, if you want people to hear you two blocks away, you go for an amplifier, otherwise you just leave it as is. To give you an idea, at max volume without the sound breaking, you can't even hear your own voice.
