Within this whirlwind of movements, positions, lines, thoughts, and decisions, fortunately, there are still bright spirits who offer and pass on ideas and knowledge, counterbalancing apathy, entanglement, and a lack of knowledge. Among them, Michalis Tiberius holds a prominent place.
Michalis's humility is a lesson in family education. The reserved child from his school and high school years in Andros, through personal effort and toil, has reached the highest university ranks, and beyond. His contribution to education is unquestionable, and his love for his students (his children) is undeniable, in his own way, of course.
This is evident from this book we have in our hands, which summarizes the love of thirty-two of his older and newer students as a gift in return for the love and care they received from their teacher.
My acquaintance with Michalis has deep roots in time. We shared the same school desks in Andros, played as children in the same neighborhoods, and learned from our parents and school the values of life that accompany us to this day. Every place, every homeland must honor its children who ascend the stairs of social and spiritual recognition.
This is what the Society of Andrian Scientists undertook with this volume in hand. We want to convey the message of the tireless effort of one of our members, the archaeologist Michalis Tiberius, who, elected in 1987 as a regular professor in the chair of Classical Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, was named a regular member in 2011 in the chair of "Archaeology (Ceramics)" in the Class of Letters and Arts of the Academy of Athens.
The Society of Andrian Scientists, active since 1987 on issues of scientific, social, and educational interest, honors the scientist Michalis Tiberius by offering this volume to the wider public, as well as to his birthplace, Andros, to his family, and to the school where he learned his first letters.
We all take pride in Michalis, in the worthy child that we have known, with such a rich academic career.
