    For indoor spaces (where we don't have water and humidity), it's perfectly fine.... for outdoor spaces where it will get rained on, forget it. I have bought SIX over the past 4 years and they ALL work!!!. Simply, statistically once a year, the 4 flat batteries need to be replaced... you buy a pack of batteries and you're good to go. It cannot be used as a sturdy padlock, just as a notification/sound that it will make, which is very loud!!!.
