I wanted a stand whose bases do not "turn" sideways, so that it fits completely under the controller, for space saving. (This setup is not suitable for live performances, as you cannot see all the controls while standing). It covered my needs perfectly. I did not expect to find such good materials at this price, I was pleasantly surprised. Especially the screws and threads seem like they will not strip during the second setup. It is quite sturdy. As for the width, when fully extended, there is an excess of 5.5 inches on each side (right-left) for a 17" laptop.
Something that I do not see on websites and/or descriptions is that the package includes 2 clamps, for setup on a flight case or on a table/bench.
