This book is the first guide to cosmetics in Greek literature. Written by dermatologists, it addresses those who, in any way, deal daily with these products.
It provides basic information about their ingredients, the labeling of which on packaging has been mandatory in the European Union since January 1, 1997, and is already implemented in the USA. It briefly describes the main categories of cosmetics, their forms, applications, and side effects, as well as related concepts of Cosmetology.
This approach facilitates the recognition of the contents of cosmetics and the selection of the best ones, while encouraging their prescription when necessary. At the same time, it follows the nomenclature of the Cosmetic Ingredients Index, established by the European Union on June 1, 1996.
Moreover, it includes, for the first time, a glossary of tables related to: Names of raw materials used in cosmetics translated into Greek. An indicative list of ingredients of animal origin and their degree of infectiousness, as they have recently been linked to spongiform encephalopathy, among others.
A list of ingredients for labeling on cosmetic packaging in Latin script, replacing the older English terminology, which is, however, retained in the book, always accompanied by a Greek translation. A table of the index of plant ingredients with the older English nomenclature, the newer Latin, and the Greek nomenclature.
