Description

Description

This book deals with the Greek presence in the "witch hunts," a phenomenon linked to the significant ideological orientations of European culture in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Based on the records of the Holy Inquisition of Venice that were formed against Greek women accused of witchcraft, it examines the social conditions and circumstances under which these women lived and acted, as well as the institutions and mechanisms that were mobilized for their immediate confrontation.

The study of these records allows us to reconstruct the daily life and survival practices of Greek witches within a world where both small and large traditions, religious beliefs, and the harsh struggle for survival, along with the fears and uncertainties of their family and social environment, constituted the dominant parameters of their lives.
