Description & Specifications

The series of the Complete Works of the pioneer of horror literature continues. The fourth volume includes the short stories Horror at Dunklewood and The Testimony of Randolph Carter.

Horror at Dunklewood Without the traveler knowing why, he hesitates to ask for directions from the calloused, solitary figures that appear now and then on the crumbling stairways or in the stony pastures on the slopes. These figures are so silent and fleeting that one feels as if confronted with something dangerous, something best left alone.

The Testimony of Randolph Carter I did not distort or attempt to suppress the slightest detail, and if there remain ambiguities in my testimony, it is because a dark cloud has shrouded my mind – a cloud along with the whole nebulous nature of the horrific experience I underwent.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890, in Providence, Rhode Island. Introverted, frail, and a lover of literature – as well as astronomy – from a very young age, he spent long periods of his life isolated from the outside world. He once said that all my stories are based on the fundamental premise that the common human laws and human emotions have no power and meaning in the universe.
