Every nation goes through a process known as "national integration." This usually involves liberation from "foreign" oppression and unification within the framework of an independent nation-state.
However, this process inevitably entails dispute and conflict – conflict of ideas, as well as conflict of interests. Ultimately, similar to the head of Janus, the other aspect of national integration is, by necessity, civil conflict among fellow nationals – sometimes with self-destructive consequences, as occurred most recently in 1974.
