Έχει μηχανισμό που πατώντας η κότα μπροστά ανοίγει το καπάκι, φαίνεται ο καρπός και μπορεί να φάει. Μόλις κατέβει κλείνει πάλι. Γεμίζει από πάνω. Αρχικά είχα βάλει μια πέτρα για πάτημα μέχρι να συνηθίσουν πού είναι το φαγητό (μια-δυο μέρες) και μετά κανονικά. Με πιο ελαφριά ζώα/πτηνά δεν ανοίγει, οπότε γλιτώνεις καρπό από σπουργίτια/περιστέρια κλπ
