The larger the number of the sandpaper, the greater the density of the grains per square millimeter. In smaller numbers (e.g., 24, 36, 40…), we have fewer grains but with a larger diameter, making them ideal for quickly smoothing rough surfaces.

In contrast, in larger numbers (e.g., 180, 220, 320…), we have more grains with a smaller diameter, ideal for intense sanding and a smooth finish.

You should also be aware that when sanding with a sander, the action is clearly greater than when sanding by hand.
