Description

Description

The Neosorb Rapid (RPGLA) surgical suture is a sterile synthetic braided absorbable surgical suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. Its characteristic rapid loss of tensile strength is due to the lower molecular weight compared to the regular Neosorb Rapid and is achieved by gamma radiation treatment. It is available, colorless, in a variety of diameter-length combinations, adapted to needles of various sizes and types made from high-quality medical-grade stainless steel.

Application & Performance

The synthetic absorbable surgical suture Neosorb Rapid (RPGLA) is chosen for use depending on the patient's condition, size of the wound and tissues, and surgical experience and technique. After implantation, it initially causes a mild inflammatory tissue reaction, followed by the gradual formation of a fibrous tissue capsule. The suture degrades through hydrolysis processes, where the copolymer breaks down to glycolic and lactic acid, with gradual reduction of its strength, and finally is absorbed by the tissues.

Advantages:

  • smooth passage through tissue
  • high knot-pull strength
  • knot security
  • minimized tissue reaction
  • flexibility and ease of handling
  • high tensile & failure strength
  • no need for removal session
  • virtually zero memory
  • short absorption time
  • complete biocompatibility

Characteristics:

  • Type: Synthetic / Absorbable / Braided / Coated
  • Composition: Polyglactin 910 (PGLA), 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide
  • Coating: Poly (glycolide-co-lactide) (30/70) and calcium stearate
  • Color: Colorless
  • Needle Sizes: 12mm to 48mm
  • Thread Sizes: USP 6/0 to 2 (EP 0.7 to 5.0)

Typical Uses:

  • Skin & Mucosa
  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Urology
  • Gynecology, Episiotomy
