The present work "Born in the Caucasus of Russia" by Andreas Athanasiadis and Christos Michailidis is an ambitious writing and publishing endeavor, as through its 384 pages it attempts to provide a comprehensive historical framework for the adventurous journey of a group of people who started from Pontus in 1878, leaving their ancestral homeland, the martyred Pontus, to settle in the Province of Kars in the Caucasus, with the only compensation being the Freedom promised to them by Orthodox Russia.

There, they remarkably developed communalism and solidarity and fiercely resisted Russification. They lived in the Caucasus for about forty years, influenced by its culture and the October Revolution, only to find themselves in 1921 caught up in the whirlwind of geopolitical upheavals that led to their complete uprooting from the lands of the East and their settlement in Greece.

They thought it was the last "stop" in the age-old journey of their tribe and they themselves named their village Pontokomi, so that the sweet homeland would never be forgotten. Here, they were swept up by the maelstrom of Occupation and Civil War, paying a heavy price for their heritage, as the "born in the Caucasus of Russia" was inscribed on their identity...
