Description & Specifications

A novel that is a conversation between the author and his younger self, describing the tragic first months of the German invasion of the U.S.S.R., the hardships and sufferings of ordinary Soviet soldiers, the failures of the military and political leadership of the country, which was caught off guard despite continuous reports of the impending attack by the Nazis.

It follows with a heartbreaking description of the siege of Leningrad and the struggle fought by soldiers and residents to fend off the German attacks. Finally, the author makes an extensive reference to the post-war years, to the conditions that birthed doubt within him, and ultimately, the rejection of previous regime myths, attempting with a sober perspective toward the end of his life to assess that period, paying tribute to the memory of his comrades in arms.

"My Lieutenant" is a heartfelt confession from an author who has traveled a long journey in life and literature. It belongs to the collection of literary works themed around war, but, in essence, it is a hymn to life, solidarity, and love for one's neighbor, regardless of the circumstances in which one is compelled to live and act.
