Mastic is the resin produced by mastic trees in southern Chios, a unique aromatic product in the world. Although mastic trees grow throughout Greece and the Mediterranean, mastic has gained particular fame. It is primarily used in confectionery for brioche and in the production of mastic liqueur.

Modern research confirms the beneficial properties of mastic, which have traditionally been attributed to Chios, resulting in the material being used not only in cooking but also in cosmetics and medicine.
