Description

Description

  • The hydrometer has two scales: alcohol degrees 0-100 and specific gravity 10-45, as well as a thermometer for measuring the liquid.
  • The hydrometer with a thermometer helps to determine the alcohol degrees of the liquid as well as its temperature.
  • The alcoholometer is a glass hermetically sealed column that ends at the top in a graduated elongated stem.
  • For its initial calibration, the ballast is adjusted so that the instrument submerges up to the top end of the stem in 100 ml of absolute alcohol at a temperature of 15 °C.
  • Thus, the top point of the stem is marked with the number 100.
  • Then, the instrument is inserted into a 95% alcohol solution by volume, where the indication 95 is marked.
  • This is repeated for solutions of 90%, 85%, 80%, 75%, etc., where the corresponding alcohol degrees are marked on the stem.
  • Therefore, when the instrument is immersed in a 100 ml alcoholic solution of unknown alcohol content, it is sufficient to read the indication at the point of the stem that balances at the surface of the solution, which represents the alcohol degree of the solution.
