In the series of books Greek for Foreigners, an effort has been made to achieve the main goal of teaching a language as a foreign one: communication in the foreign language. For a foreign speaker, communication aims: a) Understanding and producing spoken language. To reach this level of communication, the method directed at them must enable them: a) To develop an awareness of the linguistic mechanisms and language structures they should use in communication. b) To enrich and expand their linguistic code at all levels of the language, particularly in vocabulary. c) To become capable of producing and receiving texts, that is, to speak and deeply understand the foreign language.
In general, their communicative ability should be developed for appropriate, adequate, and effective communication, both written and oral. In the series Greek for Foreigners, the communicative method has been used, assisted by audiovisual material: the creative humorous sketches by Alexis Kyritopoulos and audio cassettes. The series Greek for Foreigners has 4 levels (Beginners - Intermediate - Advanced 1 - Advanced 2) and covers a vocabulary of 8,500 words in total. We hope this series will be useful for those who wish to cover the basic level of learning the Greek language (Beginners - Intermediate) as well as for those who wish to delve into its linguistic richness and master it in depth (Advanced 1 and 2).
