my shoes (asics kayano) have quite thick soles and I managed to tear them with my nails from the first day. prefer simpler shoes (e.g. stan smith) a bit yuck to take them off because you or the floor or wherever would get dirty from what was on them. they were not easy to take off in general (maybe it was the shoes' fault)
