A mediocre book but well-written. It became a bit boring for a crime novel. It's okay, nothing special. Manta has much better ones

  • Top book with a very simple and meaningful writing style, it opens your eyes to many topics and makes you see them from a different perspective.

  • Easily predictable, which is a problem for this particular type of books. It would have liked a bit more effort from both women.

The positives: The book is a page-turner! Very easy to follow and interesting until the end, with very good descriptions of the characters and the scenes! It's like watching a movie.

The negatives: There was no twist. Anyone with even a little familiarity with detective novels or movies can recognize the murderer before the middle of the book! (Still, it doesn't lose its interest though)
Personally, it reminded me A LOT of the Chestnut Man (I haven't read the book but I've seen the Netflix series) and I could consider the plot as a good adaptation with adjustments to the Greek context (since we don't make chestnut men here!) Meaning, the profile of the heroine, the murderer, and even the motive are the same!

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next book by the author duo!

Description & Specifications

“The price that the ghosts are called to pay is high. And that is exactly what I have become now. A ghost, a spirit. Of my own will, in my own way. A ghost that moves silently among the world. And them? They look at me, but they do not see me. They hear me but do not perceive me. They interact with me, but do not know me…”

A serial killer is murdering women in the present, replicating femicides from the past that remained unpunished. At the impeccably staged crime scene, the killer leaves "gifts" for the police: extra evidence with which they can now apprehend the culprits of the past. All the victims wear a piece of jewelry identical to the one that inspector Nora Dendrinou always has around her neck: a calligraphic capital “N” enclosed in a little house. The killer's invitation to her is clear. The game begins. Along with her, officer Nikolaos Panagiotidis and private investigator Elpiniki Doka. The three of them trapped in an arena of death.

Can the present unlock the past? Can revenge mean vindication? Because sometimes “the past has not yet come and the future is not as it used to be…”

"Me, apologize?" she shouted at him, crushing her cigarette in the ashtray. "What should I apologize for? For not wanting her to become a police officer? Was that a career for Sandy Dendrinou's daughter? Riding around on a motorcycle, hair cut like a rookie, chasing thieves, junkies, and murderers? She could have had the world at her feet, married the best!"

"You mean the richest..." he corrected her, risking the peak of her anger, which happened, and the ashtray landed on the opposite wall.

"Socrates!" she shouted. "Don't make me any angrier! Is it a crime for a mother to want the best for her daughter? She went and fell in love with a nobody with a troubled past!"

"What are you saying?" he responded. "What troubled past? The man was a musician, a teacher!"

"Are you pretending to be stupid now? With a problematic brother!"

"The child was autistic, Sandy. Come to your senses! And you can't play God in other people's lives! Not even your daughter's. She loved Odysseas, that's who she married!"

"And we've seen what became of her," came the sharp remark.

Socrates sighed deeply. His shoulders suddenly slumped, his head lowered, tired as well.
