The sensuality of the face we fall in love with awakens the divine aspect of its beauty within us. Bodies merge in the surge of this awakening. Only then is love platonic.

However, at what place in our existence does the ascent of our attraction meet our carnal desire? The answer to this question presupposes an ontology of the space-time of ecstasy, which the enamored gaze experiences. Paradoxically, this ontology is absent from Plato's philosophy.

Indeed, in the Phaedrus, sensuality distances itself from the meaning and emotion of beauty. Imagination presents the overwhelming vision of the rituals of beauty, but its truth remains orphaned. Within this orphanhood, reason moves doubly.

On one hand, it questions the validity of its written version, when it, maintaining our superficial relationship with beings, pushes away the memory of their metaphysical truth. On the other hand, reason dramatizes the meeting of the sensual with the ideal beauty of the beloved face.

However, it does not capture the essence of this meeting, namely, the incorporation of the meaning of beauty into the corresponding sensual form. The deadlock is due to Plato's ambivalence towards imagination. From this perspective, overcoming the deadlock is achieved beyond Platonic –but also beyond rational– thought: in the privileged reflective space-time, where imagination ontologizes.
