I decided to engage in the documentation of Turkish expressions in response to the needs of modernized teaching, and for this reason, the present collection of expressions focuses on the use of Turkish in everyday communication situations and at various linguistic levels.
This study dates back to 2004 and onwards, and the sources used were varied and numerous. Since the primary concern was to provide as exhaustive a list of expressions as possible found in different communication conditions, samples of both written and spoken language were used: journalistic language from the daily Turkish press, television language (shows and daily series), literary language, as well as from Turkish dictionaries and books of proverbs and expressions, and from personal linguistic experiences in the Turkish-speaking world. At the same time, examples from various Turkish authors and poets were used, which are presented in the form of expressions in Turkish dictionaries.
This work includes approximately 9,000 expressions classified in alphabetical order, according to the initial letter of the first word of the expression and then according to the alphabetical order of the first or the remaining words that make up the expression. This classification was considered the most effective for the collection to be used by learners of the Turkish language. The recorded expressions are rendered in the Greek language in such a way as to correspond to equivalent communication situations.
