In an interview with Swiss television, Gérard Depardieu said: "The problem I had at sixteen that led me to Tomatis was that I felt a blockage. I couldn't speak. I was hearing too many sounds simultaneously and couldn’t emit any. The sessions with the Electronic Ear gave me remarkable memory and were the catalyst for me to make a quick leap into theater and then into the language itself.
When, for the filming of the movie "Green Card," I needed to go to the United States, I found myself living the same situation as twenty years ago. In America, I was stuttering. For this reason, I went to see Tomatis again, and he proposed a program tailored to my needs — still based on the same central idea. He used a frequency band that reproduced the sound universe of an American fetus, to teach me to decode this language, just as everyone does with their mother tongue.
Thus, I was able to perceive and grasp the "music" of the American language and significantly enrich my understanding of it. Before the sessions with the Electronic Ear, English seemed truly incomprehensible to me. The Tomatis method helped me to such an extent that, when I found myself on the other side of the Atlantic, I understood the questions being asked of me... better than my own answers!
The main topic of this book is learning a foreign language with a new ear. If you do not hear "like" an English person, for example, you will never be able to learn their language, to enter into its psychology, to adopt the way they express themselves, to find the right words, to understand its grammatical structures. It is therefore essential to prepare the ear to perceive the elements related to this language.
With the help of electronic devices (Electronic Ear) that allow us to train the muscles of the middle ear, we achieve a quick and lasting result. Such an approach is a mandatory stage for every linguistic start.
