The seven surviving tragedies of Sophocles are in order: Ajax, Antigone, Trachinians, Oedipus the Tyrant, Electra, Philoctetes, and Oedipus at Colonus. There are also 417 lines preserved from his satyr play, The Trackers. Research has identified the presentation dates of three tragedies: Antigone in 442, Philoctetes in 409, and Oedipus at Colonus in 401. The hierarchical antiquity of these works remains an unsolved problem. Recent researchers accept the presented order. However, the renowned Wilamowitz considers Antigone to be the first.

Integrity and fragments. The revenge of the unseen against the seen. The fate of beings within the impartial flow of time. The work is mutilated today but beloved in its age. The Athenians adore the poet and validate his work. Whether epic or lyrical, his speech captivates and fascinates. In 468, he secures his first victory, competing against Aeschylus. Sophocles is 28 years old, while Aeschylus is 57. He achieves his first 24 victories and many second places. Never a third (Aeschylus has 13 firsts and Euripides 4).

Antigone remains beloved to this day. Aristotle considers Oedipus the Tyrant to be a standard of dramatic art.
