During the bicentennial anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution, stereotypes often prevailed, regardless of political and ideological stance. To understand the Greek War of Independence, we have a duty to attempt to engage with the historical event based on current approaches in international literature, to raise new questions, and to utilize new methods and conceptual tools. In this collective book, the authors do not discuss the events of the Greek War of Independence in chronological or thematic order, but attempt to understand the Greek Revolution through different original approaches and by utilizing different types of historical evidence that are coming to light today. Particular importance is given to both the major transformations in the Ottoman Empire, which formed the broader historical context of the Greek Revolution, and the Ottoman documents, which can lead us to bilateral readings of the events of 1821. At the same time, the Greek War of Independence is now studied not exclusively as a Greek event, but within its international context, even in relation to distant Iran, which fought the Ottomans during the same years, creating a favorable circumstance for the revolutionaries in Greece. Finally, modern historiography now approaches the Greek Revolution beyond the events, through the theory and methodology of social history. Series: Paths of History History is the word we chose from the ancient Greek intellectual arsenal to bring together the past, the present, and the future. It is no coincidence, therefore, that the way we understand the past necessarily determines our ability to understand the present, as well as our efforts to predict the future. In this logic, the series "Paths of History" aims to include books that have history as a common denominator, without necessarily being history books. Economics, social theory, political science, and anthropology are included in the perspective of the series to the extent that they utilize a historical perception of time. Moreover, the authors of the books in the series speak about their subjects in a way that seeks to transcend the traditional certainties of their field, so as to satisfy two of the basic requirements of their art, which are questioning and innovation.
