Description

Description

Why, when we look at the stars, do we study... memories? How is a black hole formed? What are the components of stars? Why are neutron stars the beacons of Space? What is the relationship between gold and the collision of stars? How many of the applications we use daily do we owe to space technology?

Travel into the Universe and discover its secrets with the guidance of the man who introduced us to the allure of the stars, the scientist who combined astrophysics and cosmology with charismatic storytelling and fairy tales, Dionysis Simopoulos.

Like a brilliant comet, Dionysis Simopoulos passed through the lives of many of us with his work. Now, that he is no longer here with us, I feel a melancholy, but on the other hand, I also feel a deep emotion that washes away the sadness: this is how I imagine him, as if he has returned "home," to the stars.

Ilia Maglinis

Read an excerpt

So, as the Moon peeked over the summit of Parnassus, our dazzled eyes witnessed a literally indescribable spectacle: Craters upon craters appeared as if they were within arm's reach, while the vast dry plains that Galileo had named "seas" were crossed by enormous ravines and mountain ranges. At that time, humans had not yet flown into Space, and none of us could even imagine that in nine years a fellow human would literally take a walk on the Moon. And yet (oh, human imagination!), that night I felt that this age-old dream of humanity had already come true with me as the "protagonist"! In that first observation, imagination had the upper hand, and perhaps that was the reason why for years I have devoted myself to this wonderful science.
