Starting from the concept of "grammar of poetry," introduced by Roman Jakobson, as well as the long-ago astute observation of Palamas that Calvos, with his "linguistic slips," "transcends grammar and forgets syntax," certain peculiar expressions of the poetic language in the Odes are examined.
These choices and formulations, which range from the simple inversion of the smooth syntactic order of the terms of a phrase or sentence to blatant ungrammaticality, frequently appear as characteristic features of Calvos's poetic grammar.
Specifically, it discusses the demand for adjectival qualification, the inversely proportional preposition of the heterogenic qualification in the genitive, the transcendent form, as well as the almost universally present scansion and the peculiar use of punctuation.
