The kumquat grows best in sunny spots on the balcony for good growth and abundant fruiting. We choose a location sheltered from frost and north winds, mainly in areas with a south or west orientation. Even in warm southern regions, when planted in a pot on the balcony, the kumquat should be protected during the cold winter nights. For planting kumquat in a pot, we select general-purpose potting soil, rich in nutrients, while at the base of the pot it is good to place a layer of gravel to drain water.
