Description

Description

The Prime Minister Koryzis 'commits suicide' as the Germans approach. He managed to fire two bullets straight into his heart by himself. Alexandros marshals 20,000 mules and 5,000 camels to transport the gold and silver of the Persians.

Students are brutally beaten by the police in front of Othon and Amalia in Pedion tou Areos, because they were wearing hats from Sifnos on their heads. The most beautiful courtesan of antiquity, Phryne, strips in front of her aged judges. They acquit her immediately.

Angelos Sikelianos, in a ravine of Parnassus, engages in a philosophical discussion with the criminal bandit Monastiriotis and turns him into a supporter of the Delphic Idea. Frenzied Souliots storm into the room of the dying Byron in Missolonghi, demanding payment for their wages while the lord is coughing up blood.

A barefoot beggar from Sitia is taken in by a monk to prevent him from dying of hunger. Sixty years later he is elected Pope. At the pier of Piraeus, a merchant from Syracuse rubs the gold coins of an Ionian against a touchstone to see if they are counterfeit.

The Church excommunicates gamblers and drinkers because, instead of fighting against the Turks, they spend their days and nights in the taverns of Tripolitsa. Rozou, the greatest political hooligan in Greek history, disrupts the parliament, cursing gods and demons, as well as Prime Minister Trikoupis.

Schliemann gifts the treasure of Troy to Greece, but the responsible minister sends him away 'along with his little pots'. Rare droplets of Greek history that explain much about our current situation.

  • I am looking forward to reading the next issue! I read about events that I had no idea could have happened. Very good book. I recommend it

  • Quite interesting, nice little stories. However, the previous 2 of the series were more interesting

  • Simple and understandable to get a taste of the historical events it describes. I would give at least one more star if sexist comments were missing, such as "maybe medicine should finally do what Sofia and so many women throughout the centuries have chosen to do, to at least appear honorable."
