Saint Catherine, also known as Great Martyr Saint Catherine, is considered the patron saint of Engineers as she was a model of wisdom and education for her time. She lived during the era of Maximinus, the absolute ruler of Egypt, studied philosophy and rhetoric, as well as many foreign languages of her time, and embraced Christianity, which she spread thanks to her rhetorical talent.
According to tradition, Maximinus assigned fifty rhetoricians to discuss with Catherine and prove to her that her beliefs were unfounded. However, not only did the rhetoricians fail, but they embraced Christianity due to the wise arguments of Saint Catherine. For this reason, Maximinus ordered her death.
Saint Catherine is celebrated on November 25th. The icon has a wooden base and a hook for hanging.
