Description

CLASSIC HANDMADE WORRY BEADS IN A WIDE RANGE OF COLORS.

The history of worry beads dates back to antiquity and spans various cultures. The worry beads are not just an object, but a story that has been passed down through generations and cultures. From its religious use in India and the Middle East to its transformation into a tool for relaxation and meditation in Greece, worry beads continue to hold their unique place in our culture and tradition.

It has its roots in the prayer beads of the monks of the Orthodox Church, which were used for prayer and concentration. However, the practice of using beads on a string is much older and can be traced back to many ancient civilizations. The earliest references to the use of beads can be found in India, China, and the Arab world, where worry beads held religious or mystical significance.

In the Middle East and the Islamic world, they were known as "misbaha" or "tasbih." With the expansion of trade routes and the communication of cultures, the prayer beads made their way into the Ottoman Empire, where they became particularly popular among the upper classes.

In Greece, worry beads spread mainly during the period of the Ottoman Empire, but they became very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They no longer had solely a religious character, but were primarily used for relaxation, contemplation, and personal enjoyment. The Greek worry beads differ from the prayer beads of other cultures, as they do not follow a specific number of beads.
