The marbling technique is inspired by the ancient Japanese marbling technique on rice paper in the 11th century (Sumi nagashi) and similar bookbinding techniques in Europe during the 19th century. It is the process of transferring colors by contact of the object to be decorated. Marbling can be used on surfaces such as fabrics, paper, cardboard, recycled paper, wood, plaster, etc. On fabric, iron the fabric after dyeing to fix the colors.

• The basin with the marbling thickening medium can be reused multiple times for ongoing projects. However, it is recommended to use small amounts of thickener and change the water frequently.
• It is advised to perform test runs before decorating the final object.
• The medium is intended for preparing the basin with water and colors.
• Available in 9 colors.

Instructions for Preparing the Basin and Marbling Technique

1. The basin with the thickening medium and water should be prepared in advance.
2. Add 2 teaspoons (7g) of Pebeo Marbling Thickening Medium to 1 liter of cold water.
3. Mix very well and let the mixture rest for 2 hours.
4. Pour 1 to 2 centimeters of the mixture into a plastic basin or tray larger than the object you want to decorate.
5. Using the provided dispenser, add a few drops of your chosen colors into the water basin. Ideally, use alternating light and dark colors.
6. Allow the colors to spread slightly before using a wooden stick or straw to create your designs.
7. You can create various patterns with the wood such as stripes, combed patterns, etc.
8. After completing your desired designs, carefully dip the object, paper, or fabric into the surface of the mixture.
9. Leave it there for 10 to 15 seconds and then remove it.
10. Quickly rinse with water to remove excess mixture, gel, and any remaining colors.
11. Place the decorated item on a flat surface and allow it to dry.
