This edition of Mozart's piano sonatas has been prepared for practical use. The editor Robert Teichmüller (1863–1939) was a student of Carl Reinecke and worked as a pianist and piano professor at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music in Leipzig. Among his students were prominent names such as Günter Ramin, Siegfried Karg-Elert, and Rudolf Mauersberger. The publication of his pedagogical editions for the piano works of Mozart and Reger attests to the respect he enjoyed in musical life at the beginning of the 20th century.
With the new print of Mozart's piano sonatas, Breitkopf & Härtel offer a glimpse into practical performance around 1900. Since Teichmüller used the musical text of the Urtext edition (Breitkopf & Härtel) and the then-current Complete Edition of Mozart as a basis, noting all his additions, this edition is interesting for pianists not only for educational and interpretative reasons but also.
