Corn or maize (Zea Mays) is a grain classified in the family and originating from Mexico, where the oldest fruit was discovered, dating back to 7000 B.C. The plant was cultivated by the Mayans, Incas, and Aztecs. It was introduced to Greece in 1600 A.D., and the name "maize" comes from North Africa.
The corn silk contains vitamins B, C, and K, silicon, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, flavonoids, and polyphenols. It has strong diuretic, soothing, and tonic effects, alleviating irritation of the urinary system. In combination with other herbs, it enhances the treatment of cystitis, urethritis, and prostatitis.
The plant is attributed with antioxidant, detoxifying, blood-cleansing, and heart-toning effects, thanks to its mild vasodilatory property.
How to use:
- Pour one cup of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of fresh or dried herb.
- Let it steep covered for 10-15 minutes.
- Strain and drink three times a day.
