Description

Tank

The water storage tank features an internal enamel coating, which covers the interior of the tank at every point and results from the application of enamel (glass) onto metal. This ensures that it is protected from rust, as the water does not come into contact with the walls, thus always ensuring clean drinking water.

Tank Features

  • External casing: anodized aluminum, highly resistant to ultraviolet rays, in humid climates and coastal areas.
  • Jacket: its innovative design from cold-rolled steel (low carbon steel), 1.5 mm thick, for the closed circuit guarantees its stable operation even in freezing conditions and simultaneously ensures the collectors are protected from the risk of clogging due to salts.
  • Thermal insulation: expanded ecological polyurethane, 50 mm thick and high density (43 kg/m3) that ensures more hot water for the consumer, minimizes thermal losses, and maintains the temperature of the hot water, even if the external temperature is 30°C below zero.
  • Internal tank: cold-rolled steel (low carbon steel), 2.5 mm thick, according to DIN 4800-5. This means double the tank's resistance to network pressures compared to most common solar water heaters, over time and in areas with peculiarities in water quality.
  • Tank protection: achieved with Duro Smalt Elastic. This innovative protection method is considered the most suitable for its resistance to very hard water, and its elastic properties allow it to follow the tank's contractions-expansions, thus avoiding the risk of cracks that occur in most tanks with different enameling protection.
  • Cathodic protection: magnesium anode for effective internal protection against corrosion and salt deposits caused by electrolysis reactions.
  • Electric resistance up to 4 kW: made of copper according to the regulations of the destination country. (Optional, for using electricity as an auxiliary energy source).
  • Safety thermostat: four-contact bipolar.

Collector

The collector has a surface area of 2.62m², capable of producing up to 262 liters of hot water. It is selective, the type most commonly used in solar water heaters in recent years. It has lower heat losses compared to a simple collector, thus offering higher efficiency.

Additionally, it features a special titanium coating, which minimizes thermal losses and provides better performance and greater economy.

Collector Features

  • Profile: features 4 ventilation holes covered in a completely watertight manner to prevent rainwater from entering.
  • Selective absorber: copper channels (∅10 and ∅22) with selective titanium coating, welded autogenously using the Ultrasonic method. This innovative welding method ensures absolute heat transfer and allows the solar collector to achieve the highest possible efficiency and durability.
  • Frame: anodized aluminum, highly resistant to adverse conditions.
  • Special safety glass: unbreakable Tempered glass (3.5 mm thick) for high permeability and durability, resistant to adverse weather conditions (e.g., hail, extreme temperature changes).
  • Thermal insulation: strong side and rear insulation (20 mm fiberglass & 35 mm rock wool), minimizing thermal losses in areas with low seasonal temperatures.
  • Glass insulation: EPDM rubber and transparent silicone.

Triple Energy

It is triple energy, meaning it can operate in three ways: with solar energy, with electric energy, or with hot water from the central heating of the house. This means that inside the water tank there is an electric resistance, as well as a coil through which the hot water from the radiator produced by the central heating boiler circulates. So, on days when there is little sunshine due to cloudiness, you will be able to operate your solar water heater either with electric energy or from the boiler, to always have hot water.

Solar Water Heater Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the solar water heater optimizes the quality, hygiene, and operational performance, while also saving on energy consumption. For the smooth operation of the solar water heater, regular maintenance by a specialized team is required. The necessary actions during the maintenance of the solar water heater are:

  • Checking the level of solar fluids & refilling where necessary.
  • Inspecting and repairing the insulation on the local solar pipes.
  • Checking and replacing the magnesium anode to prevent the formation of scale within the solar water heater.
  • Inspecting and cleaning the electric resistance.

Purchased in 2013 (not from Skroutz) with a relatively difficult installation on a raised staircase. Our supplier had informed us about the maintenance every 4 years, which we have never done, but we haven't used it much with electricity, which may wear out the anode. Due to the long distances from the ground to the 4th-floor terrace during winter days without sun, we use the attic electric heater. We have forgotten it on the terrace (knock on wood, I don't want to jinx it). It replaced a SIEMENS 160 that lasted 8 years (2005-2013) with worse performance (than SIEMENS). It definitely has an anode...

I put it in August 2013. It has broken twice and the reason is that it does not have a magnesium rod inside which would protect it from salts. As a result, after 4 years, it has almost been destroyed. I do not recommend it because after four years, the purchase cost and the repairs that have been made have exceeded €1000. Has it been amortized in 4 years? I don't think so.
