Generally, it is not easy to distinguish something special in the nose. In taste, it is slightly peppery with a woody flavor and a slight sweetness. Nothing special, of course, there are many worse options. Its price is okay, but there are definitely better choices

From Whiskey, Scottish and American. I have consumed the following in order from oldest to newest:

    1. The Famous Grouse (my review of this drink can be found on skroutz.gr)
    2. Dimple
    3. Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 (my review of this drink can be found on skroutz.gr)
    4. Teacher's, Highland Cream (my review of this drink can be found on skroutz.gr)
    5. Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack (my review of this drink can be found on skroutz.gr)
    6. Buffalo Trace (my review of this drink can be found on skroutz.gr)
    7. Haig Gold Label
    8. Dewar's White Label
    9. Jim Beam White Label

Dewar's White Label is a simple whiskey in taste and aroma. I did not like its scent when I smelled it from the bottle.

Even very experienced whiskey tasters, like German Horst Luening on his YouTube channel [whisky.com]. As well as his son, also a taster, Ben Luening. Whom I have been following for quite some time, obsessively!

Well, Mr. Luening said that while Dewar's White Label has the most distinctions and medals, it is not because of its pure quality, taste, or aroma. But simply because it has made the United Kingdom so rich.

After all, it is the top-selling Blended Whiskey in the United States [USA].

Allow me to express my opinion. If something is very commercial, it does not automatically mean that it has the highest quality compared to competitive products.

Well, I tasted and smelled this whiskey very carefully. Straight, without ice or water.

The only thing I could perceive from the taste is a bitterness. Mixed with a fair amount of sweetness. It does not have a woody or barrel taste. Or any other distinct flavor. Besides maybe a hint of vanilla. It did not give me any smokiness. To my disappointment.

This distinct bitterness is a result of the Scottish tactic of reusing the same aging barrel many times over.

Overall, although I have not yet tried any single malt whiskey from Scotland. Among the blended whiskeys I have had so far, only Teacher's managed to impress me.

However, I must admit that I liked Dewar's White Label more than Famous Grouse. These two whiskeys have roughly the same price in supermarkets.

I do not hide that I am a fan of American whiskey. Which is significantly cheaper than Scottish single malt. And tastier than all blended Scottish whiskeys.

The bottle is tall and well-crafted. But it does not stand out as much. Like that of Teacher's, for example.

Dewar's White Label has a screw cap and a safety valve. And I prefer both of these. Because the screw cap is more durable over time compared to a simple cork. And the safety valve allows for more measured and precise pouring.

In conclusion, Dewar's White Label is an expensive whiskey for the decent taste and aroma it offers. It cannot compete with many cheaper or similarly priced whiskeys.

Like Teacher's or even more so the classic, wonderful Jack Daniel's Old No.7. I would not try it again.

    Positive points:

    • It is an old and tested whiskey
    • It is the top-selling in its category in the USA.
    • It has a screw cap and a safety valve.

    Negatives

    • The price is high for its overall value.
    • It tastes bitter.
    • The smell is indifferent.

It is a classic "clean" whiskey with a relatively sweet taste, without the exaggerations of others. It is easily drinkable without being harsh. There is a hint of smoke and a little honey at the end. For its price, it is one of the best whiskies compared to much more popular blends.
