Nail files are essential for every nail stylist. There are many types on the market, made from different materials and shapes. The grit (or grain) of the file is important, with numbers such as 80, 100, 180, 240, referring to the number of grains per 1 cm2 of the file. The lower the number, the coarser the grit.
- Coarse - 80 grit: Used for removing edges and other elements from the nail plate. Mainly used by more experienced nail stylists.
- Medium grit - 100 grit: The most commonly selected classic nail files, used for the arch of natural nails, shaping extended nails, as well as for gel application.
- Fine - 180/240 grit: Ideal for finishing edges, filling nails with acrylic or gel, as well as for shortening and smoothing natural nails.
- Buffers - grit above 300: Provide shine and luster to natural nails and are used to complete the manicure.
When using nail files of various grits, remember that coarse should be used first and fine last. This sequence is correct.
